Abstract

New Media has an important place as it exists in every aspect of the daily lives of the audience. Especially with the possibilities it offers in the field of visual, sound recording technologies and broadcasting, it is also possible to produce content for the specific needs of audience. In this context, Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) videos which are effective inemotional states such as anxiety, depression and insomnia are among these contents. Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a complex emotional state that an individual feels and experiences a certain sensory stimuli, such as whispering, soft speech, sensitive hand movements and sounds when seen and heard. So, it is a perceptual phenomenon that produces a tingling sensation that starts around the scalp and neck of the individual and can spread to other parts of the body.  In this study, ASMR videos which have become popular on YouTube -the most watched online video sharing platform in recent years- are used as sleep-guiding, solving sleep problems, calming, relaxing, reflecting real life and documentary, etc. In this study, videos with more than a houndred thousand views and broadcast on channels with more than a houndred thousand subscribers from each category were selected as samples and examined in terms of content, format and themes. Sampling included videos, number of cameras, binaural microphone, number of places, outdoor/indoor, fixed studio, real-time, number of people, ambient/background, sounds, artificial background sound, event-related object sounds, music, visual effect, 3D design, editing/cutting, and generic features were evaluated by content analysis. In this context, it is stated that ASMR videos in the new media have these features. However, it was determined that they showed differences and similarities according to the categories mentioned above.
